add beauty to life

community arts

I define community arts as an artistic project that brings people together and betters the world. It is important to me for the projects to be accessible to everyone, whether they are artists or not. The project should be unique and relevant to the specific community. Some examples of community projects that I have been an artist-in-residence, directed, or assisted with include the following:

  • My current Art Seeds Community Project
  • Artist in Residencies done at schools throughout Philadelphia through the Clay Studio
  • The Community Paper Mandala Exchange that I directed through the art club at the school where I teach
  • After school STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Art, and Math) workshops done through the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership
  • Visual Communications workshops at Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco
  • The participation in a mural painting workshop through Precita Eyes with 20 other artists in San Francisco
  • The direction of a portable mural at the Urban Arts Academy in Minnesota with elementary and middle school students
  • Assistance at Family Day at Rutgers Camden through the Clay Studio where participants contributed to a group project
  • Assistance to an artist at Feria del Barrio through the Philadelphia Museum of Art
